February Homestead Wrap-Up & Early March To-Do List – Transitioning Seasons

 Happy end of February from Lange Girl Farms! As the month closes in Southeast Michigan, we’re reflecting on winter’s lessons and gearing up for early March transitions—longer days, maple sap hints, and garden dreams. This February has been about deep litter coops, indoor greens, animal care, and YAH’s quiet provision. Today, I’ll wrap up our homestead highlights, share an early March to-do list, and how our Custom Slate Plant Markers help with planning. Let’s close the month strong and welcome the shift ahead!

February Homestead Highlights
 A look back at what kept us busy and grateful:

• Animal Care: Deep litter refresh for coops, extra hay for llamas/alpacas (Rosie Red the Suri and Magnolia the Huacaya), and monitoring Misty the mini horse (due mid-May!).
  
  
• Indoor Growing: Microgreens and herb pots thriving on windowsills.
  
  
• Natural Wellness: Body butters and salves for winter skin—Bumps & Bruises and Muscle & Joint favorites.
  
  
• Wildlife Moments: Wild turkey flocks and deer tracks reminding us of YAH’s care.
  
  
• Planning: Seed catalogs circled, inventory taken—ready for spring.
  
  

Early March To-Do List
 March brings the first thaw hints—here’s our homestead checklist:

1. Finish Winter Pruning
   
   
   • Shape evergreens and fruit trees before sap rises.
     
     
   • Use Muscle & Joint Salve for hands.
     
     
2. Start Cool-Season Seeds Indoors
   
   
   • Lettuce, onions, broccoli in trays.

3. Check Tapping Readiness
   
   
   • Clean spiles and buckets for sugar maples.
     
     
   • Watch for freeze-thaw cycles.
